Office IT Infrastructure Development Process

This is carried out in accordance with the Project Plan, the Quality Plan, the Risk Management Plan, the Project Controls, and Change Management Plan. See Project Management.

The following phases may not always be carried out formally as separate phases, but must be appropriate to the project. In some cases phases will be combined or the entire development carried out in one phase. This will remove any unnecessary project management overhead.

architectural design

Architectural design
This stage will define the basic building blocks for the project. The design must ensure the following:

intranet website

All tests within the Test Plan are met.

infrastructure security

Be suitable for the layout of the office area, phone socket locations, power outlets, etc.
If the installation includes a wireless network we may install a temporary wireless network and plan out the areas of good network connection. This is unlikely to show up any problem, as a visual inspection will usually suffice.
We investigate possible sources of electrical interference.
We will look at cable routing, if required.

future expansion

Offer scalable future expansion, as agreed with the client.

file server

Be maintainable, i.e. be clear and in accordance with accepted design principles.

hardware and software procurement

Hardware and Software Procurement
The lead-time from equipment ordering to supply is usually less than 2 weeks. However, this will be determined more precisely on a specific project basis.

We will arrange for telephone and electrical socket installation, if required.

At this point we also order any necessary Internet connect packages, such as broadband line activation. This can take from between 5 working days and 3 weeks to complete.

network installation

Network and Internet Connection Installation
Here we install the network components (routers, modems, filters, cables, hubs, servers, etc) and connect them to power sources and the telephone network, as necessary. We will check that all units power up and operate correctly.

We will configure the software controlling your Internet connection and set up the network backbone.

Finally, we will configure your workstations/laptops to talk to the network, and hence each other, and for any other services you have specified (e.g. Antivirus, Administrator and User access rights, etc).

network testing

Network and Internet Connection Testing
Testing is carried out at the client site. This will be in accordance with the Test Plan.

We will test infrastructure security by simulating attacks from the external Internet.

During this stage connection problems are fixed.

Once this stage is complete you will be able to use your network to share files with each other and to connect to the Internet.

Server Setup

Server Setup
If you have specified a file server or web server we will install and configure the server Operating System and services.

We will configure your workstations/laptops to talk to the server.

If you also require a intranet website installed on this server then this will be installed when it is available, along with any supporting web server software. Please note that a KlyNET website project will be managed separately from a KlyNET infrastructure project, although they will be coordinated.

system testing

Server Testing
Testing is formally carried out at the client site. This will be in accordance with the Test Plan.

We will test server security by simulating attacks from the external Internet, and suggest remedial action.

During this stage server problems are fixed.
